Long gone are the days when Halloween was just for kids. Nowadays, adults take just as much pleasure as their younger counterparts in dressing up and hitting the town as the days draw shorter and the air grows colder. Thankfully, this is reflected in the growing number of festive ales available for consumption. Our pick of the bunch has to be North London-based Beavertown’s Stingy Jack, a hefty 7.2 per cent pumpkin ale that is sure to keep you warm during those cold Autumnal evenings.
Named after the mythical drunk who loved to play tricks on people, Stingy Jack pours a deliciously dark amber in colour. It is heavily spiced with aromas of cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg, with a smooth and delicately sweet taste on the tongue. It doesn’t give the impression of having an ABV that is north of 7 per cent, and is surprisingly drinkable. The can’s gorgeous artwork, like all that of Beavertown’s beers, is designed by the hugely talented Nick Dwyer, the brewery’s creative director. If you’re looking for a seasonally spooky beverage with bags of flavour, Stingy Jack is the beer for you this Halloween.
Beavertown Stingy Jack is currently out of stock online, but can be purchased at most good bottle shops or directly from the brewery taproom, which is located at Lockwood Industrial Park in Tottenham Hale and is open on Saturdays between 2-8pm.
